About Kibale National Park
Chimpanzee habituation in kibale involves the process of acclimating wild chimpanzees to the presence of humans. This allows researchers and other visitors to observe and learn chimpanzee behavior more closely, this process can take about 2 or 3 years.
Habituation typically takes several years and involves gradual exposure to human observers. In kibale, this process provides visitors with rare and unique opportunity to participate in chimpanzee habituation, spending an extended period in the forest to witness the daily lives of these primates as they become accustomed to human presence.
Chimpanzee trekking is the adventure of going onto guided treks in search of these primates. It involves skilled guides leading visitors on trails, helping them track and locate chimp groups. The trek offers thrilling opportunities to witness these intelligent primates up close, observe their behaviors and learn about their conservation taking about 3 hours and 1 hour in their presence. It’s a popular activity for wildlife enthusiast seeking an immersive experience with one of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom.
Chimpanzee trekking can be done throughout the whole year, but the best time is during the dry season. The dry season ranges from June to September and December to February, during this period, trails are more accessible and chimpanzees are often easier to spot as they stay closer to the trails in search of food.
Chimpanzee permit costs,
USD 200 for non-foreign residents per person
USD 150 for foreign residents per person
UGX 150,000 for East African citizens per person

Travelled to Uganda with wife and 2 children (9 and 10y old) for 7 days. Since the start (at planning stage) got a great support from Bob (company owner) and Edmund (our guide) via WhatsApp. They tailored a program to our needs including the unforgettable mountain gorillas hike, general hikes to waterfalls, safari including boat trip to see hipos!! Edmund, our guide, always super polite and the kids enjoyed him a lot! All our hotels, meals included in the package so no hassle on this….we just paid for drinks! The only regret I have is not staying one extra day in the Mburo National Park to explore a bit more ;) Memorable trip with so much nature and a super-humble people that made the experience even more enjoyable!! I learned so much from them about the animals, the terrain and the surrounding people. They we also incredibly helpful in helping me find activities around Buhoma, where I stayed, all of which were great. By the time I left I knew I had made friends who I will continue to stay in touch with.
